Paper Echo
Five paper strips, five notes. The game plays a phrase, you play it back. Get it right and the phrase grows by one note. Get it wrong and that's the run.
The five strips are tuned to a C major pentatonic scale, which has no semitones in it - so every phrase the game invents sounds consonant, and nothing you press can sound wrong. Each note is a small synth voice built in WebAudio: a triangle and a detuned sine under a filter sweep, fed into a feedback delay whose delay time is locked to the tempo. Speed the game up and the echoes tighten with it, so they always fall in the gap between notes rather than trampling the next one.
The ripples you see are that delay made visible: each tap pushes out two rings, the second one lagging by exactly the echo time.
Tap the strips or press 1-5. Three tempos, a best score for each. Headphones recommended.
Paper Games #3. One HTML file, vanilla JavaScript and Canvas 2D.
